Our History

May 1st, 2006, Chris Leblanc landed in Fort Mcmurray, Alberta from New Brunswick to work as a scaffolder at the Long Lake Project in Anzac. I had never seen nor ever worked on such big projects. It was completely amazing! A respected senior scaffolder (on the tools) – mentoring me – recommended I consider a career in safety as a growing and longer-term career. There was a big industry push for safety in those years. Bill C-45 (the Westray mine disaster) had become law under section 217.1 of the Criminal Code in March of 2004. Reference Westray Mine – Wikipedia.

Completed the National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation – the required certification at that time to be a field safety in Fort McMurray, Alberta – and started working in safety in the fall of 2007 for a turnaround maintenance contractor at the Syncrude site (Base plant and North Mine).

Being that learning is a lifelong process, field and educational learning progressed. Obtained Fall Protection and Confined Space train the trainer and completed the Occupational Health and Safety Certificate. Also worked on the CNRL site and the Suncor site as owner’s representative and various sites within Alberta in Upstream and Downstream

Relocated to Burnaby, BC in 2015 (current place of residence) to work on the LNG project in Kitimat. Project got shelved and fell in Natural gas and underground utilities. By providing clients with value added service (provide the straight goods, competitive bidding and increasing/sharpening my circle of competence), Leblanc Safety Services has been able to grow little by little – one step at a time.
